A note from the artist:
The Common Buckeye Butterfly (Junonia coenia) can be found east of the Rocky Mountains and is most notable for its large eye-spots on the back of its wings, helping to protect it from large predators. Like other butterflies, they feed on nectar and are important pollinators.
